I am trying to find a younger SUV than the 2002 Toyota Highlander I am currently driving. Yes, I feel your sympathy in this market!

Looking at a 2013 BMW X3 Xdrive 28i...dealer asking $11K at 128,170 miles. Only looked on the website so far, have not seen it. There's also a 2012 at dealer for slightly less.

I do see online that the main issue with that year is engine problems. Are they scary enough to not even consider this car?

Thoughts appreciated!

The biggest problem is not the engine, it's the timing chain. Anything older than 2015 has the problem. Now you can have the timing chain fixed than it will be a solid SUV. 2015 newer has the newer design with the timing chain fixed. Otherwise go for the xdrive35.

X3 Xdrive28 are actually very solid and does better fuel economy than Highlander Hybrid, I've owned one and Toyota Highlanders imo are only good in 2017 models but the interior really falls short of BMW.
