How are the charter schools in this area? What kind of extra-curricular activities do they offer. Do they alot of field trips? Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks for any input!
Good luck on getting in. We had our kids in charter schools in Arizona and wanted to do the same in Idaho. What we found is that the good charter schools have long waiting lists and lotterys for open slots.
You could easily get in to Hidden Springs right now if you have the right combination of ages for your kids. Older kids tend to not want to stay in the charter school...so at grade 5 or 6 they leave for the traditional school which offer sports etc. (our charters do not). Therefore...if you have an older child and they are placed in one of those open spots, your younger children are considered siblings and get bumped to the top of the list. It's a similar situation at some of the other charters who are having a tough time keeping their older kids. No charter offers bussing, sports, after school care etc. Make sure you buy in to the total philosophy of any charter before you send your child there. Good luck.
Just saw in the paper this morning that North Star Charter School in Eagle is accepting applications for 8th and 9th grades. Supposed to be a very challenging school with high academic standards.

North Star has the same program that Hidden Springs has. It is smaller with only one class per grade, but they have done a super job with their upper grades...much better than Hidden Springs.
