Aren't those called Craftsman homes? Sold thru the Sears Catalog?
They had about six designs, all bungalow-type, built to be sold to returning WWII vets... they were so popular that one small eastern seaboard town I know is trying to emulate them for their downtown revitalization project.
The Sears catalog houses are some of the many homes built during the Arts & Crafts (Crafstman) era. They emulated architecturally designed homes--some Craftsman homes are indeed Sears homes but most are not. Boise historian Arthur Hart published several small books that can be found at the Boise library that showcase some of Boise's Craftsman gems. In one book I remember he quoted the Idaho Statesman from around 1917 or 1918 boasting that Boise was a "Little Pasadena" with more craftsman homes per capita than any other city outside of the southern California city that was the heart of the movement.
