Hello again! As we continue narrowing down our list of possible places to live in the next 1-2 yrs, my hubby and I have another question for you.
The thing is, that we really really love our professional sports teams here in Michigan, not to mention all the college teams. Since there are no professional teams in Boise (NBA, NHL, MLB or NFL), is there anything local to either watch on TV or see live (other than BSU sports, of course!)? I understand that with the internet and satellite TV, we may be able to watch some of the teams we love, but I still think I'd miss being so close to the action of a local team. While we wouldn't have to necessarily see all Detroit games while living elsewhere, as that would be ridiculous, do the people of Boise support any of the pro teams? If so, which ones? Thanks for your input!

Define Pro? Boise does indeed have professional sports, just not at the major league level. The Boise Hawks are the minor league baseball team, the Idaho Steel-heads are a ECHL level hockey team.
Seattle teams have the biggest following when it comes to NFL and MLB. Portland and SLC for the NBA.
Not much of an NHL following here, but that's pretty typical in the Northwest. Steelhead games can be a lot of fun and are a good way to get your hockey fix.
There's a ton of transplants here so there's quite a bit of variety. Plenty of bars will cater to fans of certain areas/universities and sports. Harry's in Hyde Park is a good place to catch most NHL games if you want to join me in rooting against the Red Wings.
Sports here suck. period, end, dot dot.
I'm from big cities, I love going to professional and D-1 college games (i'ma pac-10/pac-12 guy) and for the past two years I have been deprived of being able to attend such events. I would go to more BSU games if they actually played someone I would enjoy watching.
IMO the Hawks and Steelheads were both miserably boring for me when I went to watch. don't get me wrong, boise has LOTS going for it, but unless you are willing to travel out of state you're in for some grimm sports seasons and multiple hours of sportscenter
Playing sports on the other hand is way different, they do have plenty of youth/co-ed/adult leagues for almost any sport here, just as really any city in the US would
