Hi Everyone, I will be moving to the Boise area in the next couple months and I have narrowed it down to either Meridian or Eagle. I was just wondering what the pros and cons of each were? I will be renting to start with and I don't want an apartment but a townhouse/condo is fine or a duplex, so could you please help me with this also? My budget is between $500.00 and $600.00 Thanks!

since no one replied . . . I don't live in Boise but have visited just recently to look at housing and as a possible relocation. I think eagle is a little bit prettier and not so cookie cutter, but the 2 run into each other anyways. I did talk to some friends who live in meridian and have a business in Eagle. They did mention that if you live in eagle and need to get to the freeway during commute hours. Traffic on the main roads leading may take you a while. Of course I live in Ca and we laugh at what people in Boise call traffic. Hope this helps a little

Having lived in California for many many years (in big cities) The traffic in Boise really isn't "something to laugh at"

It's not NEARLY as wide-spread as the L.A. area or Bay Area, but the roads that do get congested get congested very badly and it is no different than California.

Meridian is so-so and Eagle is (imo) too far even though it isn't as cookie-cutter and is a lot prettier to look at. Meridian has better access to the freeway which puts you in any part of the valley quicker than you could get there from Eagle even if Eagle is closer in terms of mileage.

I first moved to Meridian when I relocated here. I live in Eagle now. I would like to move back to Meridian. Meridian has more restaurants, and stores closer. With your budget, you are most likely to be living in Boise or Garden city. Call Tammi at Idaho Management 208-287-0404 and she can help you with some options.

Good luck finding a townhouse/duplex in Meridian or Eagle for that price. You could probably find a studio apartment or 2 bedroom apartment (without washer/dryer) for that price in Meridian or Eagle. I assume you are talking $500-$600 a month in rent.

Meridian has a few "decent" apartments for that price, it may not be in the newer northern section of meridian, but they are out there. Eagle - it's harder to find an apartment or townhome period - and the prices will be more inline with north meridian.

Thankyou for the replies. What about crime and highschools in both areas? Is one better than the other? I have had a hard time finding a place to rent over the internet,is there a online newspaper I can look at?

You can but honestly craigslist is your best bet for good deal (especially for what you want), the idaho statesman charges a fortune for listing adds so people don't post there much anymore (outside of businesses).
