We moved to Boise about 6 months ago and I just found out I'm pregnant. Can anyone recommend a good obstetrician/ob-gyn? I'm not looking for a midwife but a board certified doctor. Also, can you comment on how easy it is to get in schedule-wise and whether you usually see the actual doctor or end up seeing the PA a lot? Thanks!

Congratulations on the pregnancy! What an exciting and wondrous time--I wish you all the best and hope you're feeling all right. I've seen Monica Fealko with Women's Health Associates and she has been great--that whole group of female ob/gyns has a great reputation. For my third baby, born last February, I opted for the Treasure Valley Midwives whose birthing center is two blocks from St. Luke's. My first was born at St. Luke's with an OB/GYN, second at St. Al's with a family practice doc who did OB and third in birthing center. All were GREAT experiences. If I had gone with an OB, I would have gone with Women's Health Associates because of their low c-section rate.

I would recommend Treasure Valley Midwives, I've had five babies, the first was a nightmare...not from around here though, was with a group of male Dr's. The second was with a single male Dr with his own practice...went pretty well considering he was about to retire. The third was with UCD Sacramento with misc interns and ended up delivering in my home town with the Dr on call that night, another nightmare due to the Dr's attitude, again he was about to retire. By the time I had the fourth one I said I'm going to try a different route with this one. Had her delivered by a midwife. The best experience so far of all my deliveries. When the last one was on his way I really decided to do things differently. I had him at home in my own bed delivered by a wonderful midwife and her assistant, also a midwife. I did not have any difficulties with any of my pregnancies, thank you God, and was only three blocks from the hospital when the last one was born which helped to know it was so close just in case. My own experiences would have me recommend a midwife... they are so much more personal and are more willing to spend time with you and help you to do the birth as natural as possible. Four of my five babies were born naturally...not one ounce of pain meds before, during, or after. The best experience of giving birth out of all of my babies was my last
Just my humble opinion. Good luck

The Women's Clinic at St. Luke's is wonderful. I'm sure as a pregnant mom they'd get you in soon. For me to just get annual check-ups takes about 2 months to get in. Dr. West and Dr. Chasan would be two recommendations here. West is a man and Chasan is a woman - depending on what you feel comfortable with.

You will always see the doctor - I've never not.
