Hello..are the bars and restaurants smoke free yet? My husband and I have decided to attempt to sell out of Virginia and move west. Boise is still very high on our list however we like to go out socially without having to deal with second hand smoke at close range. The internet shows that a smoking ban is in place however not everyplace follows suit. Sorry, I lost my brother and sister in law to lung cancer, both smoked. Do not want to move to an area that still allows smoking in public places. Thank you,,

Since the ban, I personally have not seen anybody smoking inside anywhere in Boise, but people still do ignore the fact they shouldn't be smoking right in front of the entrances to buildings, etc.

Patrol officers' usually will give a warning, although one can be cited. The ordinance doesn't really have any teeth to it. But many establishments depending where you go are smoke free.

I haven't seen anyone smoking inside any establishment here at any time. It appears that this ordinance is being enforced in the Treasure Valley.

Do you know that someone who has never smoked in their lives can get lung cancer...Whether it's in a bar or outside of a bar, someone can get lung cancer from passing by someone who is smoking. Just saying.

You can't smoke anywhere in Boise or within 25'/125' of building entrances (forgot which) You can't smoke in parks outside of designated areas. It is punishable by something like $125 fine. You can still smoke in bars in Meridian and Garden City and I'm pretty sure all over the rest of Idaho.

Smoking in Boise ...
Thank you all for your input. That is very disappointing about the smoking situation in Boise. It is a shame that bar and restaurant owners couldn't appease both parties and invest in down drafting air systems. At least this way the smokers and non can both exercise their rights without endangering others. Still considering moving to Boise...but will be very selective as to where I spend my social monies and will bring a big hand fan

Even the smoke shop where I go to buy lottery now has a big sign posted on their door.

I find that hilarious.
