Hello..with all the folks moving to your wonderful state, does anyone have any stories as to ways to get your stuff there? We are coming in probably spring time next year from Virginia. We will be getting rid of alot however do not plan on totally pitching all our stuff for new on the other end. We are not young and made the trip back and forth a few time by driving a big truck, pulling a car and driving another. Needless to say that was very stressful. Looking at PODS vs traditional movers however seem to be getting the companies views on our situation not actual consumers. I have to say the PODS look very interesting ..we can hire local help to load but we are tired of driving ourselves. Thank you in advance of your comments. Coming in November to check the areas to look around.

Default Pods

We used pods when moving here from Los Angeles about two years ago. I filled a pod with some furniture and stuff from my house when I was staging it to sell. I sent that pod to Idaho to store at their location about six months before we moved. Then, when the house sold (to my surprise, in about a week), I filled another pod with the rest of my belongings and sent that to storage in Idaho, too. That was in January 2010. I visited Boise in Aprill and purchased my home. I came out again for a few days in May, had both pods delivered to my home, and, hired a couple of local movers to help unload them. When I finally moved out in June, the house was ready to go. I was very satisfied with using pods, and, since storing my stuff was a must, it was the best way for me to go.

Thank you for your comments. By any change did you price out the alternatives or was that not a consideration with the storage factor. Did you incur any damage and did you go with a nationwide company. I do not know if we can mention names on the site..J

I've only heard great things about pods. You can really organize your unpacking, too, by putting priority items and secondary items in different pods. Don't know how pricing compares to traditional movers.

I went with PODS (hope I was allowed to say that). As you wrote, because of the storage issue, I did not price any alternatives. If I recall correctly, the pods were about 2k each, but, they held a good amount of stuff. They were very easy to load (family helped me load), and, there was no damage to anything. The most convenient part, was that the pods are delivered to your home, and, you schedule the pick up. That gives you as much time as you need to pack and load. I even bought a new couch before I moved, and, had the delivery guys put it straight in the pod.

Default POD Moving Cont..

Now my only concern is can they get a truck down our small two lane road and up our driveway..it requires a sharp turn and there are deep ditches on both sides of road for drainage. Oh why did I choose to live in the country
