Are homeowners required to separate their garbage (recycling) for city pickup?

No, it's optional. You get a blue bin from the city and can put out paper, plastic, glass every two weeks.

Just to clarify, all recycled items can go together mixed in the blue bins. So, one bin for trash, one for recycling. You don't have to recycle but it's super easy. We wish recycling was weekly and regular trash was bi-weekly as most things can be recycled.

Except glass, there is a separate program to recycle glass.
