We are a family that has had to move OFTEN during the hard times. We are headed to the Boise, ID area next! Hopefully this will be our last move of this decade..but I want to make sure we pick the right area first. Does anyone have an opinion or information the best place to live in the Boise/Merdian/Star area? I need to be sure we have a 2000+sq ft home and enough room for kids an dogs to run...but don't have livestock, so don't need a huge lot (although it would be nice). My husband will be working in the very south part of Boise, ID and I don't want more than a 30min commute if possible for him. I also need to make sure it is a SAFE place and has the BEST schools possible. With all of our moving, I have to do so much homework before going..this is the first time I am asking for people's help and the first time I am posting a "thread". I hope this is the right way to do this

Will you be renting or buying? What sort of price range/budget?

We considered Meridian before we visited Boise. It's a fine area, but it's just typical suburbia. We wanted something that looked a little different from where we were moving from, and this just wasn't it.
We decided on SE Boise in Columbia Village. There's all kinds of home sizes (and prices) and layouts here, the kids walk to school, there's a rec center, and the Oregon Trail and some AMAZING views of the foothills are literally 20 yards from my drive way. We're very happy here. Just something to consider!

We would like to rent before purchasing...especially with not knowing the area yet. Price range varies depending on the size of the home. I guess between $1000-$1800 a month depending on the home size, number of rooms and lot size would be what we would consider.

The SE area of Boise would be great for my husband's commute. I will be checking the that area for sure now! Thank you so much for they help!!

Try to find temporary housing at least for a week to explore before deciding on a place to live. Yes, southeast would be great, the bench, or even west Boise.

So if I can jump in - I am in a similar boat and was looking at the Harris Ranch area - any thoughts?

Honestly, if you are looking for something convenient to south Boise, with Great schools, I'd definitely be considering Kuna as well. It is southwest of Boise, directly south of Meridian. I work in a real estate office in Boise, and everyone I've spoken to who has had kids in Kuna schools raves about how great they are. More house for the price out there as well.

Kuna-Oh, ok! That's great to know. The only person we know that lives out there recommended Kuna as an option too. It's going on the list as a real option now that it has a second. =) Thanks!

We just moved here from Texas and were drawn to SE Boise, due to the proximity to the river, the green belt, the foothills, and the commute. So far, we love it! I'm not sure about rentals, but if you able to find one, I'd jump on it. The market seemed really tight when we were looking. Good luck!

Does anyone have any thoughts or information about Star, ID? Is that some place we should consider?
