Hey folks, just what has happen to the IT industry in Boise? Micron is laying off left and right now I read that SuperValu is outsourcing their IT jobs to India. Is there an IT industry left there -- is it something that I just don't see or has it pretty much dryed up?? What's your impression?

There are some openings around but with major employers outsourcing hundreds of jobs it's not good. From what I can tell, most of the jobs currently open pay less and have fewer benefits than those being shipped overseas. For those jobs still open, it definitely seems like an employer's market.

I was a longtime Hewlett-Packard employee in Manufacturing Information Systems (wafer simulation software and web development) based in San Jose/Newark, CA until they decided to outsource our entire department in late 1998 to Southeast Asia.

Was an IT contractor at 3Com in Santa Clara, CA for 18-months at least til they outsourced our jobs to India in 2002. Ironically, the majority of IT employees at 3Com on my floor were from India.

IOW, it's hardly a new relevation that the IT undustry has been shedding jobs right and left in the USA for years and years.

My niece's SO graduated from Chico State with a CS degree about two years ago, and couldn't find employment anywhere until he was hired by General Dynamics in CO.
