My kids found a beige scorpion in 1970 near Capital Hi. The whole family was shocked since the area had been 'people inhabited' for at least 10 years... even tho the same year, our cat brought into the house a light blue-green centipede, with flat, 1/2 inch wide body and length of 5 inches. The kids fed it a daddy-long-leg, which bit it in the center of its back and sucked the fluids until the centipede died.
The area around Capital Hi was very dry desert with sandy soil prior to development.
