Congrats on your exciting move to Boise. You will love it. We moved here in the last year from Lexington, KY. We both grew up in the Cincinnati area. I would suggest looking on Craigslist. We got the most bang for our buck there. Your move is going to have a lot of moving parts. Find a place on craigslist that allows a short term lease. You can probably find one for 6 months. Don't worry about where it is. Most areas of Boise area are pretty safe. Meridian reminds me alot of Boone County neighborhoods. It is full of suburbs that have been planned out, which carries some uniformity to it. You are generally not going to go wrong if you choose a place. Eagle is nice, but is very new and seems expensive. This means you are generally going to pay more. Generally, if you find some place near the river, you will be on the greenbelt if that is important to you. Traffic isn't horrible. Be aware the interstate I-84 is a mess right now, so you cannot count on that as a commute. As a Cincy resident I am sure you will learn to appreciate the side roads. One word of advice, be prepared to not want to move back. I have been here a bit and fear (happy) I am losing my eastern/midwestern edge. A little distance gave me perspective that the things important there, aren't important here (what high school you are from, which neighborhood you grew up/live in). This is not to say either one is bad, but coming indirectly from Cincinnati was a wake up call as that permeates life back home. I still miss Skyline and LaRosa's though. I am sure I may be wrong about some of this, but these are big general ideas to worry about as you move.

Your rental budget sounds about right for a 3 bedroom but as others said, you might have to look at Meridian to stay under that.
Hello! I saw your post about being from Lexington and wanted to reach out and get your thoughts on why you love Boise. I currently live in Lexington and have an excellent opportunity to relocate to Boise (for a federal job). I love the outdoors (and being out west) but I've never been to Boise. Interested in your thoughts -- thanks!

Boise is great! My husband and I are moving from Denver and I just visited for the first time a couple weeks ago. I absolutely loved it. We are mid-20's and I felt a very young, vibrant feel in the downtown area. Tons of great restaurants, a lot of great breweries and people enjoying the weather on the patio, not to mention the beautiful Greenbelt river and trail with tons of runners and bikers. I also noticed a great music and arts scene. A lot of places have great live music, and I heard of some great authors that spoke to some of the BSU students last month. Overall, it reminds me a lot of Denver but without the recent traffic/congestion/crazy rent and housing prices. It is exciting to move to a great new place.

Yet... Wait 10 years and we'll start seeing what Denver is seeing now. Crowded roads on the weekends to every recreation spot, insane house prices, congestion, etc. It happens everywhere, it will happen here.
