Hi everyone,

Now poster here and after searching the threads i didn't find much so decided to ask the question above myself.

My wife and I are looking to move to the Boise area next year from the UK (She is a USC and WA native before moving here) and I would like to continue my career in Engineering. I have both Automotive and Mechanical Engineering Diplomas and Honours Degrees respectively and have 10 years experience in Automotive, Production and Semiconductor Engineering disciplines.

Trying to do some reasearch, I understand HP and Micron have a big presence in SW Idaho (though with my skillset being mainly mechanical bias I'm not sure there would be any opportunities?) and Wabtec who manufacture locomotives. Our intention is to visit Boise when we come over to see the inlaws in December and I wanted to get an idea of Engineering companies in the area that I could introduce myself to/network with so thought I'd ask some locals if they know of many other companies that I can't find online.

Many thanks.

The Chamber of Commerce in many citites will allow you to access the names of the member businesses, that might be a good place to start. :-)

Downtown Boise hires many SW engineers. On Semiconductor, Photronics, Marvell, Western Electronics, and Micron may have opportunities. HP is in transition again. All of the colleges are looking for people with Masters degrees in STEM fields (adjunct or full-time). The barrier of entry for tech is lower than other states, but I would not stray far from the short list. Wabtec rarely hires which could be a good thing.

Micron just announced a $200M fab expansion in Boise. You need mechanical engineers to put up the structure.

so besides the usuals like micron and HP and I know a friend working with marvell you have lots of small companies throughout boise like cradle and even Microsoft has a small office. Anyway good luck with this boise is a great place to live and work with a nice engineering community I loved my time at HP though it was sadly short lived.
