I am on a roll this week, first a spot of restaurant recommendations, now a spot for gardening recommendations.

Being new to Boise this year, this is my first Fall/Winter, and am searching the net for answers on how, specific to the Treasure Valley, I should prep my plants.

In particular, roses, new fruit trees (peach, plum and 2 types of cherry), two new River Birch, a Solangiana Magnolia, two new aspens, and two potted rhododendrons.

Any info. MUCH appreciated!!!

Default winterizing the garden

If no responses here, I would suggest a visit to Zamzows, they are wonderful! Always available to give gardening advise. I'm planning a visit there soon myself.

Thank you both! I will give Zamzows a shot, have purchased dog-friendly lawn bug spray from them in the past.

Thanks again!

Did you have a lot of bugs in your lawn?

We did! We had a bunch of "no-see-um's" a week or so ago, annoying when you're sitting outside, or BBQ'ing.

The stuff I bought from ZZ's, you spray on in the evening and it's okay for pets/kids to be on next morning. Got rid of the bugs. Didn't seem to affect anything else but those flying critters, still have lots of butterflies and bees, and a few wasps.

I have a total black thumb, so not going to chime in at all, except to say don't forget to winterize your sprinkler system. If you are from a warmer climate, you may not know to do that.

Speaking of maintenance. Is blowing out sprinklers a necessity here? I'm guessing it freezes enough to risk bursting pipes in sprinkler systems, right?
