But it's tricky. Most people live in or more to Boise not to get away from sprawl, but actually because they can less painlessly embrace sprawl (eg, commute times less, housing costs less) while still getting all of the advantages of it.

Boise is doing a better job of infill, and naturally it will get more dense here, like it has nearly everywhere else. So what do I most want for the Boise area? Less people. Absent that, a workable rail system.
No rail needed here. Besides the liberals will have us all riding bicycles and living in micro apartments, so dont worry. As progressive politicians regress us we will be riding horses again anyway.

You are a piece of work. Why don't you move to the Ozarks?

Boise is already a bicycle city, as the weather warms up heading into Spring, cyclists will be everywhere.

Gotta love the dialogue at city-data lol. This forum is a good one to read on occasion for a good roll of the eyes and quick giggle.

Yes...good for a quick giggle, but hopefully the giggle can be refrained for some arguments about the future of the Treasure Valley.
I think many in the area need to think beyond the next five years, and look toward 2030. The region really will not do well with the current mindset.

Let me re-phrase that. The region will either do well or not do well with the current mindset, as the jury is still out. Just thoughts to ponder...

The planners and comp plans are pretty good and forward looking; the problem is the comp plans don't have much teeth. If development meets certain checkmarks, it necessarily gets the yes stamp. You need buy in (and increased pressure upon) the private sector.

Also, ACHD needs to go. Now.

However, I will say, IMO, that unless you develop central town centers in suburbs, you will eventually be caught up in nonsensical sprawl, and isn't that why most move to Boise to avoid? Perhaps Eagle today is like The Moreno Valley in SoCal was 30 years ago. Just a thought.
They absolutely do not want to turn it into Seattle. None of my relatives who live in Boise want anything like that to happen, even though as more and more move in from California it's tilting that way. Encouraging growth and density will only make Boise a worse place to live, just like has happened to Seattle over the last 30+ years.

i would like to see eagle stay much as it is i like the small downtown and the rural feel once you get past the subdivisions i never had cell service issues with verizon but i suppose a tower would be nice. i agree boise could use fewer people and more transit.
