For us folks who are not use to much snow, any recommendations for a good shovel?
Is there a time when places in town start having specials on them or best to get early?
Looked at Home depot and Lowes to price yesterday, any other places that we should check? (Know about Walmart, Amazon, etc)
Just wondered if there were some great places here in town that newbies might not be aware of yet.

Thanks

I've seen them at Costco, (seasonal). They looked pretty strong.

Thing is, folks in Boise are not used to too much snow either. I know of no "great places" for snow shovels. In the 20+ years I've lived here I've used a broom more than I've used a snow shovel. For the rare occasions that there's enough snow to actually lift and toss out of the way, I prefer the shovel type. Otherwise I use a "plow" type -- either style in plastic because they're light. Home Depot, Lowes, and outside at the front entrance of just about every grocery store in Treasure Valley (especially Albertsons) have them when winter officially sets in. The only time you won't find a snow shovel is the morning after a 2- or 3-inch snow, so grab one before that happens.

The "specials" happen as soon as merchants want to replace the snow shovels on display with BBQ grills and patio tables/chairs.

Sorry, no. I was eating a bowl of chili in the CdA Costco and noticed several people walking out of the store with them. They looks pretty substantial for a snow shovel and I thought to myself that "these should last more than a year or two". This was mid-season last year, near the end of December.

Check out the True Value Hardware stores in the area. I bought a snow shovel there a couple of years ago.

I agree that it typically doesn't snow that much these days. When it does, I have to shovel most of an acre of parking lot, by hand, at my office, so I'm well versed in snow shovels. My favorite are the ones with the bent handles, you'll see some if you google "ergonomic snow shovel". They don't put as much strain on your back when there is a heavier snowfall. I think they sell them at Home Depot. But not this time of year. I don't think I've seen any except during the winter.
