I mean, seriously.

I don't mean for this to be a negative thread - I'm actually quite entertained by it. It seems that we have one or two of these things a week.

Does anyone know where I can find official statistics on this stuff? We have to be in the top ten for bank robberies.

Has anyone else noticed this insanity?

It seems or we actually do?

I don't think we would be voted one of the most secure places to live in the country if crime was that huge of an issue. Crime statistics are taken into consideration before the award is doled out.

You can easily get information from the Boise Police Department if that's a concern for you, but I think you all ready know that.

I just googled an article from the New York times and it looks like Oregon leads the nation in more bank robberies per capita, behind New York, California, and Florida for the year 2007. Sorry no Idaho even mentioned on the list.

Not to discourage anyone from moving to Oregon, any state is going to have an issue of some sort so I wouldn't discount an area based on that.

See, that's so weird to me. Oregon?

I can see Cali, Florida, and NY, but it's just odd that Oregon is tops. I'd be willing to bet that Idaho is at least in the top 10.

Maybe I'm wrong, though.

FBI stats aren't out for 2007 yet (UCR), but 2006 report shows (total number):

Idaho: 27
OR: 176
WA: 264
NV: 142
CA: 915

OK...I'm too lazy tonight too look up 2006 populations...someone else do it for me and figure out the per capita.

It's all about media coverage. In Los Angeles no bank robbery will make the news, nless it ends up like the one N. Hollywood a few years ago. In Boise every bank robbery makes top story for the night.

Good point.

And maybe it's me, but everytime I hear about a bank robbery I think "jesus, didn't someone just rob a bank last week?"
