MOVE....
Because of my job, I have to deal with snow...
We had mountains and Mountains of snow in our parking lots...and the winter just lingered on and on...

We have thought about moving to a more even type seasons... like 30-40's in Dec-Jan...90's in the summer..
This -10 to 107 for Boise is getting old, like me....:0
And the housing here is getting crazy...

So any comments on a more even tempered climates....good jobs and housing that you could afford areas ?

Housing that is affordable with year round good weather?

The Puna area of The Big Island of Hawaii has cheaper real estate and the weather is the same year round. Of course, there are active volcanoes. The other Hawaiian islands don't have the hot lava, but they cost a lot more.

If you can tolerate humidity, maybe Tennessee, Virginia, Louisiana, close to the ocean or close to the gulf. It will be a lot warmer in the winter.

I don't want to worry you, but weather is often in cycles. Once there is a cold winter, there are normally several more to follow.

Yay!! I couldn't get enough snow last winter. Well, it might have been close to the "just right amount" of snow, but golly, I miss it!

A lot of people are attracted to South Carolina for the same reasons. We have friends who moved there because of the ridiculous COL of SoCal, and a wish to have 4 moderate seasons, and they love it. But I'll bet summers are humid...

I'm exactly those things too, I don't ski (I kinda hate it...) and the most snow gear I own is a snow shovel and a set of chains for one of our vehicles.

But man! I love being out in the snow, I love shoveling it (until blisters slow me down), I love walking in high snow, and love, love, love watching it fall.

If one snowy winter is all it takes to run you off, I don't think Idaho was ever the right place for you.

Winters like the last one don't come along very often, but they do come, about once or twice every 10-15 years or so. Like the occasional hot summers, they're all a part of the life here.

But no matter where you choose to live, there are only 2 ways to get through a bad season. You either dig a little and do the best you can, or you complain and make it all worse than it is in your mind.

That's your choice, but I don't think you will ever find a climate that suits you if you have the second mind set.

Been here since 1966...I know the weather.. and having to shovel entries on 14 apt. buildings is getting old..like me and it's not digging a little...
And this last winter we plowed and plowed until the truck wouldn't push it anymore...it was about 12-15 ft high in several locations(the piles)..we ended up getting a front end loader to do what the pickup with a plow wouldn't
The last time I saw snow like this was 1982ish...
My point is, it's time to think about an easier climate...

My choice is not to kill myself...for the wages paid here in Boise...
