Hello! I will be opening a childcare facility in the next 6-12 months and would LOVE to hear your thoughts and feedback!
I am tossing around the idea of opening a very small childcare (6 children total) for parents who wish to give their children quality care where they are still receiving specialied one on one attention -as they would with a private nanny- while also receiving the social aspect of having other children around to play, grow, and learn with. This would be a great setting for children who thrive in smaller groups or who are new to leaving the home.

Tuition would be less than a nanny and more than a typical daycare or preschool at approximately $8-11/hour.

What are your thoughts? Would you like to see a full time or part time program? Thank you!

I don't have small children, have no idea about the daycare situation, but surely, there are some legal requirements for opening a day care. So my only advice is that you look into that carefully.

You'll have a much easier time of it if you own your own house. A landlord would have to be crazy to allow a day care in one of his rentals.

I suspect that your concept is good. I can't predict success or not because that is out of my field of knowledge.

It has been a long time since my 3 boys were in child care, but we used in home daycare services. My wife and I interviewed about 7 different places before we found one that really stood out. We saved the best for last to interview and showed up at about 4:30pm so we could interact with other parents picking up their kids and they all raved about it. Was a great match for our kids.

As OregonWoodSmoke mentioned, check on the licensing because each city/jurisdiction has different rules for number of kids, licensing, etc.

Some residential communities may object based on the CCR's.

Here is a pretty good study by Health and Welfare: http://healthandwelfare.idaho.gov/Po...Report2015.pdf

If the parent(s) are working at low paying jobs, daycare will consume most if not all of their income at your rates. However, if the parents can afford quality care for their kids, sometimes, price is not a factor.

Best of luck!

There is a huge need for infant care. Higher end prices are going at $195-205 a week for full time infant care.

It saddens me when I hear of people putting their infant
children, or any children, in the full-time care of others.
Not meant as an insult to care providers, most
of whom are probably very good at what they do.
I just believe that in most cases children are best cared
for by the ones who love them most, I.e., their parents.
There's no amount of money, standard of living, or circumstance
that could have ever convinced us to put our children in daycare.

That's per child. You would have up to 5 infants in the daycare. So $25 per hr if you broke it down that way.
