Hi there everyone! My husband and I are thinking of relocating to Nampa, Idaho from Northern, Michigan. We would be moving for my husband's job. I will be a RN by the time we move and will also be looking for work. He also has family in Utah and we plan on going to visit/see the area when we go visit them. From research we have done it seems like a good fit. However, we have 3 girls, they will be elementary school age. Just wondering how the area is, what the schools are like?

Nampa is very nice and affordable, although it might not beat northern Michigan. In general Nampa and Canyon county are somewhat less expensive and somewhat less..upscale...than other parts of the Boise metro. But they’re nice, sort of the further out bargain bin of locations centered on Boise. There will be lots of opportunities for RNs.

Are you a Yooper? My family is orig. from Michigan, but from the middle of the State.

Nampa is less costly, housing-wise, than Boise/Eagle/Meridian/Star...and you can get more land for the money too. Taxes will be a tad higher in Canyon County (Nampa) than Ada County (Boise, etc.) but that may change, hard to say.

Schools, you'll find many home schoolers here, and overall, ID is not known for it's high level of education in the lower grades (not college), but again, that may be changing partially due to the influx of people moving in and bringing in tax dollars.

I am orig. from CA, and have traveled a bit...I've seen more medical facilities in ID than any other State I've been in, you shouldn't have much trouble finding a job. The pay probably won't be as high as more metropolitan areas though.
