Although this forum would've certainly been helpful prior to moving to Boise, in a way I feel fortunate I didn't find out about this place until after I had moved. Otherwise prior to my move I likely would've developed a complex about being one of those Californians coming in, and it would've been all for naught (never got any grief in the seven years I was there, and I had my CA plates on for nine months after moving). It's not like the talk would've stopped me from moving as I was dead set on Boise. But, at least initially, it might have led to different and less fulfilling social interactions where I'd be hesitant to discuss myself.

I would agree. This has been the norm on this forum since I joined in 2007, and it's never changed. I think lots of the CA bashing and negativity is probably to keep others away, and to a point I get that.

But, I never got any flack from anyone, even when I had CA plates on my car (which was only for a few weeks). Everyone here has been great, but I don't advertise I'm from CA. Then again, why would I? I'm a proud Idahoan now!

I think quite a few will be moving to Star. The city council in Star does not seem to be able to say no to developers, especially Willowbrook Development.

I have been in Boise for a year now, coming from Florida. I recognize the local's concerns, as I had them decades ago when South Florida was being literally taken over by New Yorkers, and then Cubans. In the 70's Floridians had bumper stickers that read, "We don't care how you did it in NY!"

Most everyone I know here are local Idahoans who do not want their beloved state to be changed by an avalanche of newcomers. But anytime you have a huge wave of newcomers, they will change the culture of the area. In my personal experience the New Yorkers didn't improve Florida, but the Cubans did. But regardless, it changed Florida. The same is already happening here.

Developers and crooked politicians (Any other kind?) allowed South Florida to literally become a parking lot. Concrete strip malls and housing from the ocean to the Everglades. My experience here is that our politicians are just as crooked as those in Florida, and developers just as disgusting. They will pave over the beauty of Boise and Ada county as quickly as they can.

I think one thing natives and newcomers can agree on, enough development is enough! Slow down the growth! Maybe together we can still save Idaho.

Idaho should learn from California's mistakes.

The Star City Council has a number of attack dogs in social media, especially on Facebook and Nextdoor. Say anything negative about development in Star, count on being attacked. Two of the council members were recently the subject of an unsuccessful recall over the development issue. One councilman actually showed up at a residents door and confronted him over comments the resident made on social media. Anyway, they mobilized the Mormon Church and fought off the recall.

Star has recently annexed almost 1600 acres of vacant land in Ada and Canyon Counties. The land is scheduled for development of over 3000 homes. There is nothing but a few two lane roads leading in and out of the area. They did not annex the adjacent land which was populated. Had the adjoining residents been annexed into Star and allowed to vote there is no doubt both council members wold have been removed from office. A pretty crooked moved by the council who say "we are just following the law."

Try that in Star and you will be attacked on social media by those claiming you are trying to shut out others after you moved here and got yours.

Some counties in Idaho could benefit by having a SOAR.
