As for south facing, you will shovel about half as much snow off of your driveway and sidewalks as your north facing neighbors due to the low angle and arc of the winter sun being able to strike more exposed south facing surface area and melt it faster.

Agree 100%. Our house is north facing, and our neighbors that are either south facing or face to the west but are across the street from an open park area often have their snow melted by the end of the day, when ours will sit on our front yard for weeks or more. It makes a huge difference.

But like sunflowersinthegarden said, if you get it pretty quickly it is so light and fluffy that shoveling is super easy. It's just getting out there and doing it.

A word of caution--south and west facing back yards in new subdivisions with no shade trees are so hot in the summer here! It can be brutal.
