This was unheard of and never seen almost 4 years ago when we moved here. Now, I see them at Chinden/Eagle Rd. McMillan/Eagle Rd. Anyone else notice around the Treasure Valley? Must be CA sending their "best and brightest" North bound to us. Not happy. It's a scam. Stay in CA.

Notice the words used were PANHANDLERS and SCAM. Not homeless.

You blame California when it is EVERYWHERE and could have come from ANYWHERE!

We have the same thing here in Iowa (I don’t blame California though). I suspect this is more of a national issue.

Retiring/retired police chief Bill Bones came to my office meeting (group of real estate agents) and talked about our safe city and said in no uncertain terms to never, ever give money to panhandlers.

Default Panhandling is Now a Career:

For about three years now, my wife and I have noticed the same group of panhandlers rotating from one strategic location to another throughout the Boise, Meridian, Garden City and Eagle main thoroughfares. We often wondered why they did not expend as much energy in pursuing a steady job since the unemployment rates are at record lows for all facets of workers including women, blacks, Latinos and veterans.

After doing a little research I believe I’ve found at least part of the answer. It appears that it is quite lucrative pulling on the heartstrings of the general public and a respectable and tax free salary of nearly $60,000 per year can be secured by putting on tattered clothes, not shaving and displaying a cardboard sign saying that I’ve fallen on hard times....anything helps!

Below are several articles illustrating the profession of panhandling:
