Hi, everyone. I am moving to Boise this summer and would like to rent a cheap and smallish (I'll be on my own) place for myself. Since I've heard traffic can get heavy in Boise the best thing for me would be to get something downtown, where I'll probably also work. Being from out-of-state, I have no idea where to start looking, so I hope you can help.

Are you looking for a house or an apartment, and how much can you spend?

There are parts of the bench and the north end that are easily accessible to downtown also, especially by bike.

I am looking for an apartment or even a room, since I'll be on a budget. Biking downtown would be a great option if it means a lower rent or a better place. I'm just out of college so sharing something or even renting a room (attic, basement) with a family would work. Spending more than 600USD would hurt my chances of moving greatly.

I have a tent in the backyard for only $599.99. No bathroom or kitchen privileges, no dogs. The bike is thrown in but it needs 2 new tires.

I'd guess your best bet would be to put an ad on Craigslist.org, since you wouldn't mind a non-traditional arrangement like a room rental. My guess is there are plenty of people who need a roommate right now with the economy the way it is.

You'll be wanting to look at the north end, the Morris Hill Bench area, the Boise Depot Bench area, and BSU area. I see there are a few ads in that area for well under $600. Good luck!

P.S. I see a listing in Hyde Park which is close to downtown also.
