I'm moving to Boise in June and planning on renting a house in Winstead Park. From what I can tell this is a decent older neighborhood with some urban character. Its not North End but still looks interesting. Is it walkable? Are there any coffee shops or bars near by? Thoughts? Thanks

Winstead Park is definitely walkable, with or without sidewalks. There's not much there except residential. All of the nearby restaurants will either be on Fairview or towards downtown. All the bars would be on nearby Chinden blvd.

We used to rent a house right there, across from Mountain View Park. Great location

I lived on Alamo in that neighborhood for five years and my mom is on Redway and used to be on Pomona. We LOVE that neighborhood. Fun fact is that it has its own community water system--Capital Water--that is on a flat rate per household for water. I'm not sure what it is, but it's something like $30 a month in the summertime for all of the water that you use for both indoors and out. The result is that everyone's yard is green and there are a ton of trees. There is quite a bit at Cole & Ustick. My mom and her husband walk to dinner and coffee and the library there. There is also a mini-Walmart in that shopping center. Winco and Fred Meyer are close, too, and plenty of dining options a short distance. It's overall one of my favorite neighborhoods in Boise. Homes don't come up for rent or for sale very often so it sounds like you got lucky!
