We just visited some grocery stores and the state store. Beer I used to buy for $15 anytime is $19 here. (Fat Tire) . Crown Royal whiskey which I used to buy for $35 is now $50!. Wine is likewise more pricey here.

What do people do to save money? I could quit drinking and may decide to do that, but was wondering if people drove to OR to stock up?

Thanks in advance for any helpful thoughts.

I don't drink but this is what I discovered, each county sets its own liquor tax rate. So try a different County. Otherwise a different state. I don't understand how folks can even pay a dime for it.

Propane is a lot more expensive, too, as are groceries.

Gasoline is cheaper which makes up for it, a bit.

If you think you would save enough on a bottle of beer to pay for your time and fuel to drive to Oregon, then do that. At least in Idaho you save 10 cents for the bottle deposit.

What is the cost of super unleaded fuel?

No. Liquor is much more expensive in Washington. This started with grocery store sales around 2012. Heavy taxes, oh wait, this is Washington! And just this evening I heard Oregon is trying to increase the liquor tax. So, Idaho is still the cheapest in the PNW, but get ready for an increase. Historically, "sin" taxes have been the easiest to raise.

I wouldn't make a special trip to Oregon just to buy "cheap" alcohol. It might not even be cheaper. But, if you are there it can't hurt to comparison shop. Don't forget the 5/10 cent per can/bottle deposit you have to make in Oregon too. Nevada might be cheaper if you are heading to Jackpot for some "fun".

Yes, Nevada has cheaper alcohol than Idaho, Washington, and Oregon. Nobody should be surprised by that!

When Washington opened up liquor sales to grocery stores in 2011-2012, prices increased by about 35-40%, mostly due to additional tax. The promise was this was just temporary to cover costs of the startup process. Guess what? This was NOT temporary. Prices remain high, about 30% higher than neighboring States. I love my native Washington State, but the State never dislikes a tax once it is implemented. Shame on Olympia with this one.
