Cheap Bar for first dates (Boise, Meridian: construction, pub, food)

I went to Kona Grill today with a first date from a dating app, and well, the drinks are a little beyond what I want to spend on, especially when you're doing this multiple times and not knowing when there's a compatibility potential for a second date with someone.

Is there a decent dive kind of bar, that doesn't charge a lot for drinks, but also not too rundown and divey if you know what I mean, in the Meridian area that you'd recommend. Quiet place as well.

Coffee doesn't work too well for me for first dates

I'm sure I'll get all kinds of comments relating to or not relating a specific place recommendation, so I'm ready for these

Not sure about Meridian, but 10th Street Station in the basement of the Idanha in downtown Boise is a good choice. It's a dive bar but hip and draws a progressive artistic crowd.

LOL….if you’re taking your date to a cheap “divey” bar on your first date, then I can see why you’ll end up “doing this multiple times”.

Okay, I’ll take a shot at this one Steve, check out Pauly’s Bar Room, previous Ricks Press Club. It’s in Meridian on Idaho Street. My hubby and I haven’t been yet but we love to check out pub grub and have a cold something to drink too!

I've started a lot of fun, spicey relationships with just a drink in the past. I'm just using a forum for ideas on less expensive places, that's all.
If you're a dude, and feel compelled to take her out for a steak dinner w/o knowing anything about her, have fun with that simpy behaviour. If you're a woman, well..., try to forgive all of the guys out there refusing to drop a bunch of money on you before they even know you.

Meet up at a park with trails, perhaps somewhere along the river in downtown Boise. Walk and talk … text later to say you enjoyed her company (if you did);and would like to see her again. If you don’t hear from her or she declines then no money “wasted” and no hurt feelings. As a woman who has done online dating, I much prefer this approach for men I have never met unless he insists on meeting for drinks.
