Property taxes are going to vary from location to location depending on the aggregate levies imposed by the cities, counties and special taxing districts they may fall under. The tax rate will fall anywhere from one percent to 2.7 percent of the market value depending on the local area. Property tax in Boise goes towards supporting some of our local services such as fire and police. For example, if you are considering buying a home in Ada county, you can pull up your taxes at the link below to see the break down. Just enter in the address, then click on tax districts. From there you will see the breakdown for each tax levy: Ada County Assessor

The sight below should explain taxes quite clearly for you. Both Idaho and Boise have some of lowest property taxes in the U.S.

Idaho State Tax Commission - Property Tax Relief

As far as homeowners insurance, there are lots of variables to take into consideration. Here's a rough estimate for you.

Estimate on owner age 40, $200k home built in 2008, Frame Composition Roof $500 Deductible $300k

Insurance Cost Per Month

Average / Best Case with all discounts includ. new home
Boise - $32 $20
Eagle - $34 $22
Meridian - $35 $23

So just to give you an idea on property tax I pulled a couple of listings for you.

Taxes can vary, but here are a few examples:
For a 200k house in Star, one listing shows taxes to be $1,573, in Eagle $1635.01, NE Meridian $1430.

Someone living right next to you could pay different taxes than yourself if they fall under a different tax levy, so if you see variances in taxes in the same neighborhood that means that some of the neighbors are falling under a different tax levy.
