LOL! We got our first heavy snow here in Albuquerque this week, and it's always funny to see the reactions. The roads are completely melted during the day (you can hear it under your tires), but some people still drive as though there is a New England/Midwest-style snow cover. Then night hits and it freezes into ice, and you get to watch all the idiots the next morning making abrupt movements as though it were a summer morning.

I've contended with ice that makes loss of control inevitable, but many forget that most ice can be overcome by merely avoiding abrupt movements (i.e., in steering, braking, or accelerating).

I hate to sound pompous, but every winter just seems rife with people who think ice/snow are an excuse to forsake all common sense. Driving on ice is just like all other driving... drop the fear or disregard and exercise some respect. If you have to pass someone, they should be driving like an idiot. If someone has to pass you, they should be driving like an idiot. Don't get into situations that require you to slam brakes or gun it. If you have trouble gauging what's appropriate, then God help us all if you have to drive somewhere in the wrong conditions.

Lastly, it can be obnoxious, but it should be obvious to anyone of humane reflective potential why we all prefer those who err toward caution. Driving too careful is silly and annoying, whereas driving without care is stupid and dangerous. One gets in the way and delays everyone by minutes, while the other potentially brings everything to a halt... or worse.

And yes, I did have a lot of pent up head slaps on my chest. And that expression had added senselessness when I put it like that.

hahaha the yellow bus getting sideways in that video is a University of Iowa Cambus. Definitely after one of our famous midwest ice storms.
