We are being transferred the first of June for three years, and need to rent a place sight unseen. We are talking to someone about a duplex 2 blocks from the Hillcrest Country Club near the "canal". Is this a safe area?

Thanks.

Be careful of anything near a canal as the mosquitos can be bad. Boise did have to spray for West Nile Virus last summer. Some parts of that area are nice. Are you going into a subdivision? Are you going through a property management company?

No, property management. Too much money for out of state background checks and all that nonsense. I just want a home, not access to national secrets. The home is on Phillippi, near Edson.

That's a great section of town, but like any older area you have great properties and not so great. If I were you, I'd camp at Residence Inn for a week while you look around. The extra $100 for the background check may be worth it to not get stuck in a house you'll hate.

Where will you be working? There are a few property management companies that have virtual tours ... also, check the Idaho statesman (the local paper) online they have a lot of rentals there. If you let us know where you will be working it will be easier to recommend a location.
