Although Drug Emporium was once a mighty deep discount store, Wal-Mart has almost wiped them off the map, in the U.S.
(have not seen any Drug Empoiums in Boise)

Wal-Mart for price.
Walgreen's for friendliness.
Albertsons for discount cards.

Albertson's, even with their discount cards, still costs me about 20% more for my weekly groceries than WINCO does, so I've moved my shopping to WINCO. No discount cards, but the groceries are sustantially less overall anyway. I still have a couple of things that I get from Albertson's because WINCO doesn't carry the brand I like, but very little.

So for grocery stores, I like WINCO. Their produce isn't always the best, but the one I shop at on Fairview has a Reggie's Veggies just a mile down the street.

For pharmacies, I just can't stand going to Wal-Mart when I don't have to, and there isn't one all that close to my house. There is a Walgreens right next door to my office, and they all know my name when I go in.

Anyone shop at the Grocery Outlet? I saw that there's one in the Garden City area. I know they are privately owned so they can vary a lot from store to store. The one in my area is great(clean, friendly, etc) and the first place I hit to find stuff on my shopping list before I go to Costco, Fred Meyer, or Albertsons. :~)
