You might get a better response reposting this in its own, new thread.
Just my opinion from our explorations, I would say The Bench area. There are lots of smaller homes on tree lined and sidewalked streets. Reminded me of "smalltown" USA. It wouldn't take long to get to know the local shops and she wouldn't really need to venture out of her zone if she didn't want to. Don't know the demographic there, though.
Just wondered, why is she relocating now? :~) D

If you go to maps.google.com and type in Boise ID you'll see that where 184 and 84 create a Y it says, "Central Bench". I don't know why it's called that. shrug. In our looking at real estate listings it's often referred to as just "The Bench." :~) D

I am finding it hard to locate any online forum, purely or largely political, centred on Boise.

Anyway I welcome the opportunity to say the following:

Ada County property tax is outrageous.

Sales tax on food is ourtageous.

Can't find my post so I'm posting it again:

I have actually had a hard time finding any online political forum based on Boise.

Still I appreciate the opportunity of having my say here.

Come on over to the dog park at Roosevelt & Alpine on the Boise Bench. You'll enjoy gorgeous views of the foothills, a nice fenced area for dogs, and lots of friendly folks. It's a fairly new park with water for dogs and people, covered tables & benches, plus an awesome new playground and walking paths outside the dog area.

I agree that the bench could be a great fit. You might like the area of the west bench bound by Northview, Cole, Ustick & Curtis. Great neighborhood with it's own very affordable water district (Capital Water--flat rate of $15.00 in the winter/$29.00 in the summer). Nice, intergenerational mix of people with a great park, new grade school, city community center and library near by (at Cole & Northview and Cole & Ustick), shopping, and close to a major hospital (St. Alphonsus) and all of the medical offices/services related to that.

For new construction, there is a over-55 community in the same general area that has really nice single family patio homes that are well built and generously sized.

Good luck with the move!

I'm not sure how many times it has been stated on here but Boise itself really isn't that conservative. There are plenty of California communities far more conservative. Boise's mayor is a Democrat and I believe many of the other government positions related to Boise are as well...could be wrong after the most recent election. However, the State and Boise's surrounding communities are pretty "red".

Could you elaborate on this. I am looking to move to get away from the filth here and tired of constant robbing of our dollars for fees and taxes. I wouldn't think that your tax would be worse than ours. Our sales tax alone is 8.975% not to mention that we pay $.54 per gallon of gas for state and federal taxes.
