Anybody been to Boise or lived there?
Hi, my boyfriend are looking to move to Boise, Idaho...We both grew up here in San Diego and realize this place is just to expensive. We both like the mt's, camping, snowboarding, fishing, so being outdoors in Idaho is not a problem. Does anyone have any suggestions what part of Boise to move to? Where to all the young folks live? We're both in our late 20's and like to go out to the bars, see live music, entertain.....Any suggestions?

we made the move.....
Hello there,
As you can see by our screen name (858to208), we moved from San Diego to Boise! You will love it here! Soooo many Californians here with all the same luxuries that us Southern Californians enjoy. -Jamba Juice's, Starbucks everywhere, Taco Del Mars/Del Taco's, Kohl's, Macy's, Dillards, Sephora (for the women!), and the list goes on and on. People are really friendly here in a REAL way. Not the fake type that act friendly but really want something from you.
My wife and I are natives of San Diego (Del Mar/Encinitas areas) and we pondered the move for 3 years!! We were scared to leave such a "beautiful" place as San Diego/North County. Having been here in Boise now for 2 months, we truly wish we would have made the move years ago. The tellers at our bank are all from Orange County, 2 checkers at the grocery store are from Santa Barbara, our 4 neighbors are all from Northern California and one is from Carlsbad! Our oldest sons principal is from Santa Barbara........every other person it seems is from our area which makes it a little easier to fit into a new area.
-We are not big partiers these days with 2 kids but there is plenty of excitement here for younger folks. Lots of bars/taverns downtown and plenty of younger people in their 20's. Outdoor activities: So many things to do and list, it would take me hours. You can be in the mountains within a 20 minute drive, the sand dunes within an hour, the river(s) within a few minutes, real hot springs within an hour and if you miss the ocean REALLY bad you can make it to the Oregon coast within about 8 hours.
Hope this helps! You guys will not regret moving here! This place is growing like crazy. Good luck

I have heard that the unemployment rate in Boise is very high...how hard is it to find jobs there?

Try posting on the Boise or Idaho thread. This is for San Diego.

Hi 858 to 208,
where do you think a good place for younger people with no kids should live in Boise? We dont go out to much but want to be close enought to the action if we needed to take a cab. My boyfriend's parent live in Eagle but i heard it further from downtown and more family oriented. Wha are your thoughts. Thanks for responding!

I grew up in Boise and now live in LA. Most of my friends that remain in Boise around my age (26) now have children. A lot of them are still active in the outdoors but you may want to get use to kids.

Downtown Boise is probably better suited for you guys. College is there and lots of younger folks live in that area as that is primarily the "hang-out". It's like comparing downtown San Diego to North County....Eagle and Meridian are like North County in that they have a lot of families, restaurants, etc where Boise is like San Diego with more of a night scene and younger people living in that area. Good luck! You won't regret it one bit. People here are soooo much more friendly, cost of living is much cheaper than CA., and quality of living is way better than anywhere we have ever lived as everyone is not stressed out all the time like in California plus you get all the luxuries of California things. We will never go back except to visit my wife's mom !

We left San Diego for Boise in the mid 90's. From what I read you will probably love Boise. I would move downtown as there is more things to do for younger people. More families generally live in west Boise. Good luck!

You don't really "live" downtown unless you rent or can afford a condo (good luck). Except for that turd project on the Connector. Lol.
Anything between Idaho and State is prohibitively expensive unless you get past 23rd. The North End is still mid to high 200+ for most livable properties, and the same with the Warm Springs area.
You can, however, be with 5 or 10 minutes of downtown for fairly cheap.
Better have a job lined up! Promise. It's not pretty here right now.
