New Memoir "Dance on the Volcano: A Teenage Girl in Nazi Germany" (story)

Just out in 2010 by Renata Zerner, this fascinating memoir by a teenager from an anti-Nazi family who had to watch their evey word while within hearing distance of strangers tells of their travails and privations. Zerner, who now lives in Los Angeles, ends her story in April, 1945 with the arrival of American troops in the small town where she and her mother had evacuated from Berlin. I am already wishing for a sequel telling of her experiences in the aftermath under the occupation.

It is interesting to hear first hand accounts.

I think Lisa Ling or her sister--journalist released from North Korea--wrote a book about that. What the people of North Korea will think if they ever find out about the world beyond their isolation will be interesting.

I agree that the US 'can't' become involved in the affairs of sovereign nations--lack of $, too many lives lost and the rehabilitation of so many takes years if possible at all, but it is difficult to think that people aren't allowed to think.
