I've read the whole Grisham collection, liked em all. Yeah, it's been awhile since I blazed though one of his paperbacks. Last one was "The Bleachers", not his usual law and crime related mysteries. It was more of a story about a bunch of 40 something guys in a small town, dealing with some past history when they were high school football heroes.
Do you read good books almost non-stop in a few long armchair settings, or do you just take on a chapter or two at a time over a period of a few weeks?
My fav Grisham books are Time to Kill and the Chamber. Both dealt with a cast of sleazy characters and gritty settings in Louisiana and Mississippi.
I've read them all too! I think he tells a good story.
How I read his books depends on the book and what's going on in my life. I prefer to sit out in the sunshine and read for hours on end, but when I'm working that's impossible, so I try to read a little each day. If the book is really engaging that little each day can lead to sleep deprivation on work nights.
How do you read books?
I have read everything by John Grisham too. He writes a good book. He sort of departed from his normal style of writing with Bleachers and Skipping Christmas.
My favorites are The Client, A Time to Kill and The Summons. I liked that he brought Harry Rex Vonner back in The Summons. Harry Rex is a typical southern 'shuck & jive' lawyer!
How I read all depends on the book if I devour it in a day or two ... you know one of those 'you just can't put down' or one of those with a multitude of characters and places introduced in the first couple of chapters and I have to look back and get everybody straight as to who is who.
There is a new book out called Playing for Pizza, however all of the reviews I have read so far have been terrible. Its not his usual legal thriller. It has something to do with playing football in Italy. Im a sports fan and think I might enjoy it, but even the men reviewing it have not had good things to say about it. Maybe I will wait for the paperback.
The Bleachers was my favorite Grisham book so far.
Janet Evanovich, I read one book, it was okay - didn't make me want to read another.
Patricia Cornwell, got burned out on her - after a while all her books seemed too simliar.
Scott Turow , never read anything by him - will check it out.
