Pillars is one of my absolute favorites. World Without End was also very good. I also recently finished Fall of Giants and found it a worthy read. This made me want to look into his older works and I picked up the Key to Rebecca, but was not crazy about it.

Don't bother trying a third time. I stuck it our right to the end, and kept wondering why. If you really want to embed yourself in a serious and really well-researched literary work about such early times, spend your reading hours curled up with Sigrid Undset. Preferably the older translations --- the newer ones read, alas, too much like Ken Follet.

I absolutely loved reading Pillars of the Earth. I love plots that have multiple story lines, and are interwoven with historical events. I loved how well Follett captured what life was like for people of differing social strata in medieval Europe.

Great book. Entertaining and fun. Pillars of the Earth is one of my faves..... up there with Monsoon, Lonesome Dove, Comanche Moon, Hawaii and Shogun.
