I recently finished The Golden Compass, by Philip Pullman. To be honest I was a little disappointed in it. He doesn't do a great job of introducing his world and the characters in it, so it takes a while to figure out what is going on. The book got a lot better about halfway through though I thought.

I am now working on The Subtle Knife which is the second book in the trilogy, which seems to be almost exactly the same in its problems. I am about halfway through though, and once again it is picking up.

They've both been decent books, but they are definately not favorites for me.

A Simple Plan by Scott Smith. Three men discover a plane that crashed...pilot dead (only one on board)...and find 4.3 million cash in the plane! They take the money and run. You'd never guess the ending of this one! Great book!

The Darkest Evening of the Year by Dean Koontz.

It was wonderful. He's so good at getting the creepy on, but his books, his more recent ones anyway, have such a richness and depth. He has a way at looking at the sweetness of life, as well as the darkness, that touches me.

Ice Nine by Kurt Vonnegut.
If I ever read all of his books I might start re-reading them. He is great.

That was a short story in the book Four Seasons, right? All four of the stories in that were good... Shawshank Redemtion, most notably.

Read three-quarters of "Almost" by Elizabeth Benedict. Hate it when a book seems as if it will be good, and you go past halfway through and find it boring, slacking, ugh! Am a third of the way into Middlesex now which I don't think will be boring at all.

'Judge and Jury' by James Patterson. I like all of James Patterson's novels. Also 'Obsession' by Jonathan Kellerman and 'Treasure of Khan' by Clive Cussler. I like to read a lot.

Sex Drugs and Cocoa Puffs by Chuck Klosterman. I loved it and it prompted me to buy 2 of his other books.
