Really enjoyed a walk in the woods by B. Bryson on the trials of hiking the AP. Anyone read this book and can recommend a similar read and maybe similar topics? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks
I'm not sure if you're looking for other books about hiking or if you just like Bryson's style and sense of humor. At any rate, I also enjoyed Bill Bryson's Notes from a Small Island, not about hiking, but a very entertaining read.

Not sure what kind of book "A walk in the woods' is but a started reading "To a Mountain in Tibet" sorry I forget the authors name, but I remember reading that he was very descriptive about the places he traveled. I could not get into it, though he was a very good writer, I'm more into romance novels, but its sound right up your alley.

If it is Brysonish humor mixed with facts that you are seeking, try "The Geography of Bliss - One Grump's Search for the Happiest Places in the World". Eric Weiner takes a humorous look at what makes people happy in countries around the globe - or not so happy, in the case of Moldova.

One of the best nonfiction books I ever read was A Short Walk in the Hindu Kush by Eric Newby. You can check it out on amazon.com.
It's about a trip the author decided to take with a fellow Brit who was stationed in Kabul in the 50s. The Hindu Kush is a mountain range that is huge and very high. The two guys decided to walk from Pakistan to northern Afghanistan and then scale the Hindu Kush. Neither of them were climbers so they figured they could "practice" on a rather small hill in Wales. That, in itself, was a total hoot.
This is one of the funniest (intentional humor) books I have ever read. All this happened in prewar Afghanistan which was actually a rather progressive place back then. Along the way you will meet some amazing characters and you will laugh until you can't stop.
Plus, the author was an amazing guy who had so many different careers that I couldn't keep up with them. But he was a winner and found humor in even the most dire situations. This book is a classic with the Small Planet gang. I've read it twice.
Like the topic of hiking the AP trail and Bryson's description. So any reads on walking this trail or others in theis country would be of interest to me. I have not read any other Bryson books, but maybe I will start there thanks.
It was the book that spawned walk/run/bike, etc. across America treks ...... whether for personal or fundraising reasons.
