Actually I just watched the movie for the first time on Friday and loved it so bought it Saturday and have watched it 3 more times! I know that sounds pathetic but im just in love with it! The story, the characters, the music, the meaning behind everything just amazing!!

"A Week in Winter" written by Maeve Binchy was the book I've just finished...it was the last book she wrote before her death. I will miss her calm and entertaining stories of Ireland. I believe I've read all of her work over the years ..she will be fondly remembered and appreciated.

Just began "The Memory Keeper's Daughter" by Kim Edwards...quite good so far..hard to put down.

I just love Maeve Binchy's books. Her first book, Light A Penny Candle, is my favorite by her.

I loved The Memory Keeper's Daughter. There's a movie based on the book.

Yes! I love all her books. My personal favorite is Circle of Friends.

Back in the Dark Ages when I was a book reviewer for the local newspaper I was given a Binchy book to read and review. I was immediately hooked. She wrote with such a gentle yet firm voice. Her descriptions of Ireland, London and all the places her characters visited rang so true. Plus, her characters were all so fully fleshed that I felt like I actually knew those folks and there were only a few that I wanted to bop on the head (like in real life).

We lost a great writer when she died but her books will live on because....well.....because they are so good.

We Are Called To Rise, by Laura McBride. Powerful characters in a story about intersecting lives among Las Vegas residents. It involves a tragedy but very moving and hopeful.

"The Abominable" by Dan Simmons. He's the author that really got me into reading with his Hyperion series. Still that good.

Default He's got Game

Just finished Earth Awakens, Orson Scott Card filling in the Ender series, SF. It's a kind of prequel, but it stands nicely on its own. V. good, I enjoy the backstory on Mazer Rackham et al. Nice touches in portraying Earth - China especially - under the gun from alien invasion - the Formics. (Although in the recent movie, the Formics looked more like souped-up praying mantises, to me. But then, I'm not an entomologist. Xeno-entomologist? Not clear - the indications I see are that the Formics are warm-blooded. That mixes up the categories nicely.)

Anyway, a fine read, with more to come in the series.

I'm reading Agatha Christie's "Towards zero". I've read "Memoirs of a geisha" and it was good, though not very accurate in its depiction of the geisha culture. The next book I want to read is "Veronica decides to die".

Hi K, so good to "see" you. I loved Circle of Friends too. I can't think of any of her books that I don't love. I haven't read them all. I can't believe I haven't, but I will. Did you read Light A Penny Candle? I loved Scarlet Feather much more than I thought I would. I'm hoping I can pick up some of the ones I haven't read at a library book sale next month. September 6th, I'm counting the days.

I looked this book up and I'm going to have to read it. It sounds good. Was it in hardback or paperback?
