I'm reading samples. Yesterday, since I don't already have enough books waiting to be read I turned on my kindle and started looking through the non- fiction list and downloaded a dozen samples of books that I might be interested in. I do wish that they had sort feature that would give us the option to see only certain categories of books, ie cooking/food, business/economics, etc within that non-fiction list since there were many that I had no interest in.
I also noticed that there were several dozen fiction titles scattered through the list as I looked at 900 titles. They need to clean up their act but I won't be holding my breath waiting for them to do so.

Ha, ha…everyday I come here and also to Goodreads to look for more recommendations. Like I need more books to read when I have a stack of 8 library books to read It must be a sickness
I recently listened to "THe Mirror" by Maryls Millhiser on audio from books in motion dot com. They have dowloadable books for 9.99 which can't be beat
It's about 2 women both on the eve of their weddings who both peer into the same antique haunted mirror and change places in time. The grandaughter lives her grandmothers life.
I've since read other books by the same author, and she herself grew up in Iowa and lives in Boulder, so the settings are far more entertaining than the same old settings from other authors, i.e. Nantucket and Cape Cod. Also, she wrote a lot of these books in the 1970s so I love stories that take place before the boom of electronic socialization.
Her other books I've read (found at some library or used on Amazon) are Michael's Wife, Nella Waits, and am now reading Willing Hostage. SHe tends to have elements of mystery, suspense and horror in with fiction.

I can imagine a 12 Step program for people like us would be a total failure and people would go home from a meeting with 10 or 20 new titles instead of a better ability to resist acquiring new ones when we don't have the time to get through all the ones we currently own/borrowed. Makes me want to believe that there is such a place as heaven and eternal life - in a library of course.
Detested the hero,a Duke who needs an heir to ensure the keeping of the family property and titles out of the hands of his cousin, but he is such a stone-hearted-messed-up mental nut case because of lack of maternal affection and love and physical scarring, that no way would he ever be able to allow himself to get close enough to a woman to even become intimate with one! So that makes the story totally ridiculous and unbelievable,as the more you read, the more you see what a mental case he is!
All the while his wife- poor Persephone, is suffering a broken heart and homesickness on top of family loss and living with a man who is mentally and emotionally too detached to even be aware of her suffering!
Sadly, you've just described a number of couples that I know personally.

It's only sick if it hurts you or someone else!

Actually, there's Overdrive that is free, if your library subscribes and you are a member.

I think you've just described a book club.
I'm back to reading the historic fiction of the life of Emily Carr: "The Forest Lover."
Thanks, LookinforMayberry, I do have overdrive but find that they don't always have a wide selection, and since I have a long commute to and from work, I prefer audiobooks. I tend to check the library first, try to get them on CD or download them from overdrive, then try the library lending system if it's an older book, and my last resort is to buy used from somewhere.
Another recent book I've read that I found very appealing and different from the usual women's fiction was The Good House by Ann Leary. Very readable without the usual checklist of plot points. I am really looking forward to more from this author.
Do you mean Outlander by Diana Gabaldon? It takes about 50-75 pages to get going.
I personally think if you go into any book (or movie for that matter) with expectations really high you won't be able to enjoy it. This was one that I kept putting off because my SIL just raved and raved. I'm glad I went into it feeling like I was going to be bored to pieces and would drop the book before I finished it. I wound up loving it. It certainly isn't going to be for everybody, but it sure has so much to it that I was hooked.
Yes. I am enjoying it. I like a good bodice ripper as well as the next person, so I don't know why I had trouble with it the first time. Maybe watching the first episode on Starz helped me get into the beginning.
I know I've mentioned this before on other threads, but y'all have read Clan of the Cave Bear (Jean Auel), and the rest of that series, haven't you? I have never enjoyed a series more. The main character, Ayla, is an awesome girl. Once I finished the last book, I was bereft.
That's too bad. Usually it's a sappy romance that can get me out of a reading rut.
Oh yes,me too,as long as it's clean, but not too preachy... and I have to fall for the hero, lol!

I often have to renew my library books 2-3 times, cause I picked up more recent reserves and found some of them more tempting!I can't stop adding to my TBR list and I have so many freebie books on my Kindle that I won't even live long even to read them all!
