If it's any consolation, the writing is pretty lame. I'm just a small way into it, though, and I'm curious about the problem in their family, so I'll keep reading.

Yes, it was a Kindle First. I only know that because it was mentioned in the reviews. (I don't read reviews but I scanned a few for turn-off key words like "predicable" and "soap opera.") I have no idea what Kindle First means. Does it mean that it's a first novel by the author? When you say that you're kicking yourself for not getting it, do you mean that Kindle First books are initially offered for free? Clue me in, please.

ETA: I just looked it up. You can buy one of the four Kindle First books early... for $1.99 (or for free if you're a Prime member). Sweet deal. I'm going to sign up for the monthly email.

Feeling better now. I don't think I've a read single one of my Kindle First books yet and I think I've been getting them since it started. At the start of the new year, they offered 2 per month for I think it was 2 months. Or maybe it was Dec and Jan they did that. Anyway, I subscribe to the same buy books or get free books for my Kindle but don't read them...instead buy more or borrow from the library club so who knows if or when I'll read any Kindle First books I've gotten.

Hahaha! You and I are the same person. I get a bunch of books... don't read them. I get super-excited about a book's release and then, when I finally get it... totally disinterested.

I just looked to see if Trail of Broken Wings is lendable via the Kindle... nope. I would have sent it to you via Amazon lending... so that you could not read it.

Bwahahaha!! We would have had to looked at my calendar to see when the most convenient time for me to read it would be too....

If you do end up enjoying the book, I'll have to put it on my wish list. Maybe the library would have it or I could buy it and it could sit on my Kindle for the next 30 years.

Those of you who enjoyed Still Alice should take a look at this story: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/05/17/ma...life.html?_r=0

A tough but worthwhile read.

Thank you for this, Marlow. What a sad article but also a happy one since she was able to select her exit.

Still Alice remains my favorite Lisa Genova book. Since reading it I have read two other books written by her: Left Neglected which deals with a brain injury that leave the person totally unaware of anything on his/her left. I also recently finished her book Inside the O'Briens. This one deals with Huntington's disease. All three are good books with great character development and a lot of information about the medical implications of all three medical issues. I heartily recommend all three books.
