I'll start Rust & Stardust by T. Greenwood next. I have very little faith that any book will work for me now, though.
Aaaaand it's another no. Rust & Stardust felt like it was written by and for a teenager. I got to approximately 10%. If I want to know the Sally Horner story (the true-story kidnapping that was the inspiration for Lolita), I'll read The Real Lolita: The Kidnapping of Sally Horner and the Novel That Scandalized the World by Sarah Weinman after it's released on September 11.
Do you think the TV series was a faithful portrayal of that kind of life? My late mother loved that show, and my late grandmother was an admirer of Wilder.
I've watched the TV series as a child. I can remember that I liked it but it was about 25 years ago...

I won't even bother telling you how The Language of Kindness is going. Or went. Or didn't go. You already know.
And I won't bother telling you what book I'll try next, after these approximately 46,592 failures. There's no point. I'll come back when I've FINISHED something.

I feel for you. This year has not been my best and I like all kinds of books, lol.
Have you ever had odd coincidences in books? I have had so many over the years. Here are a few. My husband told me he liked a certain boy's name. I think he heard it on TV. Anyway the next book I read had that same name in it.
Another time we were talking about flora and fauna which is not something I heard much of. Sure enough it was in a book I read not much after that.
Molokai had a female who surfed in it. I haven't read any books that I recall that had a female surfer until 2 weeks ago, Beach House Reunion which was a book I won. It was a pretty good book. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/...-house-reunion

I've often had odd coincidences like that...almost like premonitions.
It's almost startling when that happens...

Okay, the stars have aligned. I'm only 6% in but it's a good one: Sadie by Courtney Summers. I thought that it might be YA but the reviews said it was... and it wasn't. They're right; it's not. At least it's not strictly YA.
is fabulous - but honestly, if you're not a bridge player you might not get a lot of what the book is about as the author tries to learn her mother's game of bridge. If you play bridge, what she says is TRUE! The joke in the forward, "how many Jewish grandmothers does it take to change a lightbulb" alone is worth the price of the book. ;D
oops somehow the name of the book got omitted.
it is The Bridge Ladies
Quoting Netwit and Clara C and DawnMTL- I just got this from the library on kindle and I started it last night--- it looks to be very promising! I am not a bridge player at all so I hope I don't really need to "get " the bridge commentary. So far I am glossing over the explanations of the bridge terms and still enjoying it. A very sweet memoir so far.
