Finally picked up a copy of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I like this tattooed girl -- reminds me of the forensic scientist, Abby, on the tv series, NCIS.

Also had to get a second copy of George Eliot's Middlemarch. My former student's model, complete with notes, was driving me nuts. I wanted it on pages without the notes, it seems, and in a slightly larger type. This, for my meet-in-person-monthly Book Club. Remember those?

Working on a few others, as well: Marcus Zusak's The Book Thief, and added T.C. Boyle's The Women to the TBR stack(s). I have about three different TBR stacks around the house, upstairs and down.

Please do, anitajas. We meet monthly, and choose books maybe 2 months in advance to take into account some read more quickly, others more slowly. It is a nice mix of readers. We call ourselves The Booker Babes.

Feel free to DM me.

I've put aside Cuckoos' Nest for the time being, started Ham On Rye instead. Enjoying it immensely.

Default Marguerite Duras's works, translated from the French

When I stopped in one of the Used Book Stores here that I like, I stumbled upon a collection of Marguerite Duras's novels -- four of her shorter ones in a volume together. I had forgotten how much I enjoy her works!

If you are looking for a love story, of sorts, and beautiful prose, try her novel, The Lover. It is largely autobiographical, and bittersweet -- a young teenaged girl (I think she's 13) interests a very wealthy Chinese businessman, who sees her and finds her attractive. She 'lures' him into a relationship, because she likes him, but largely to help support her poor, struggling family. There was a film made of the work, by the same title.
