"Shutter Island" by Dennis Lehane. Won't see the movie until after I read the book. Just the way I like to do it.

I love Lehane's books. Mystic River was one of the best books I've ever read.

Since the preview of the movie looked quite good I put Shutter Island on my Amazon wish list. I'll probably be ordering (again! ) sometime soon.

Just finished Notes from My Travels by Angelina Jolie. Not a fine piece of literature, but good information on refugee crisi around the world.

Last night started The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down. It is about a family of Hmong refugees who've come to live in the US and their conflicting approaches to a medical crisis. I'm only about 25 pages in, and have already learned a ton!

I totally agree. I started the book and can't seem to put it down. His books always grab me immediately.

Faces by Martina Cole. I cant believe a woman wrote it, its harsh and the F word is on every single page just about, but the story is somewhat intriguing and Its kind of hard to put down. Im not used to reading crime novels like that. Im used to murder mysteries.

Ruth Rendell, probably my favorite writer, has written so many books that I keep discovering new(to me) ones to read. I get many at my favorite used book store..actually find more Rendell there than anyplace else. The one I'm enjoying now is called "Adam and Eve and Pinch Me"...quite unusual title..it refers to a childs' rhyme (British). This is not one of her Chief Inspector Wexford series of novels but, is a stand alone psychological thriller.
Her books are so well written ...this one has fascinating characters..she makes you feel that you absolutely know them. If you have read and enjoyed her stories, this one is a must read.

I've been reading The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down . FACINATING! I've barely been able to put it down.

It is the real story of a Hmong girl who is born in the US to refugee parents. She has her first epileptic seizure at 3 months. Due to language barriers and cultural differences, the Drs have an extremely difficult time treating the child; where as the parents are doing everything in their power to heal her but the government keeps interfering & undermining them.

The title is interesting..."The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down" is actually "epilepsy" translated into Hmong. (which is their diagnosis)
