I am reading Les Miserables...Over the years I have checked it out many times, then returned it w/o reading. Wish me luck!

Also Till We Have Faces by CS Lewis...not sure yet what I think, but it came highly recommended by someone who's taste in books is much like my own.

I finished "Shutter Island" this weekend. Very good (5 out of 5 points from me).

The Constant Princess by Philippa Gregory is as well written as The Other Boleyn Girl and I enjoy it a lot.

I needed something more lighthearted after finishing Push. I'm currently reading The Trouble with Humans by Christopher Anvil.

I started The Mermaid Chair by Sue Monk Kidd. I loved The Secret Life of Bees but this one is starting out like a fairly well-written Harlequin Romance, so I'm not sure yet. (No offense to romance readers, but it's just not what I expected.)

I too loved The Secret Life of Bees, but I was disappointed with The Mermaid Chair for exactly the reason you stated.

Read Slaughterhouse-Five a couple of months ago. My husband loves Vonnegut and I'd never read any of his books, and we own quite a few of them! I wasn't sure what to think at the beginning, but I ended up really liking the book. So it goes. I will read more of his books eventually.
Sirens of Titan. . . one of my fav's. . . really a much better book than the cover artwork would suggest. . . .
