Sorry it didn't work out for you, but I might try it sometime--sounds fun!

I'm reading The Spellman Files by Lisa Lutz. Entertaining fluff of a novel about a family-owned PI firm. The first-person narrator is very funny and all the characters are quirky and mostly likeable.

Because Christmas is coming, I am re-reading Hogfather by Terry Pratchett. I don't re-read very often but it has been at least 5 years since I read this and I am enjoying reading it again.

Next up will probably be a Jodi Picoult book - provided the library has one checked in that I haven't read yet.

Oooh! I'm interested to hear what you thought -- it's on my "to buy" list.

You read so much! I'm envious of your time and/or speed.

Now reading the third in Tanya Huff's Keeper's Chronicles trilogy, The Long Hot Summoning - it's more focused on Claire's younger sister Diana who is also a Keeper and has a talking cat named Sam (who used to be an angel)

Too bad she didn't write more in this series but oh well. After this I can get back to the SM Stirling Change/Nantucket series.

"Against Gravity" by Farnoosh Moshiri. My library is closed for the holidays, so I stocked up on a couple of weeks of reading. After "The Kite Runner" and something else I forgot, both of which were disappointing, I've been avoiding the very popular (and mostly female) Middle Eastern emigre' writers, thinking there can't be that many who are gifted. It seems like anything in English by a writer with an mideast name can find a publisher. "Against Gravity", so far, is good enough to at least keep on reading past page 32.

so tickled to find another fan of Terry Brooks kits! really have enjoyed all his books, currently reading The Ilse Witch. I've always been looking for a writer of fantasy who could hold a candle to Tolkien and I think Terry Brooks does a great job... also liked the Eragon series by that very young man with a good imagination. My favorite really obscure fantasy writer is Barry Hughart, A Bridge of Birds is one of his books, recommended by another fantasy lover. All of his books -- I think he only wrote three -- were great. I also love Octavia Butler who is more of a sci-fi writer than fantasy. Anyone have any really obscure author or book recommendations? I think I have read all the 'recognized' fantasy writers but you never know!

That is an exceptional book. It broke my heart but I'm so glad I read it.
