I am doing the same thing.
At the moment I'm reading O, Pioneers by Willa Cather and I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou.
I'm going to also. Wow, gret minds do think alike! I wish everyone reading this would keep a list. We could list them in one spot periodically.
Thanks for the nudge, Jess5. I'm going to do it, too. As a matter of fact I have an empty journal in the back of my car that I can use.
And speaking of new books.....I don't recall who mentioned "Up From Orchard Street" by Eleanor Widmer but I owe you a very big Thank You. I ordered it the day I read about it.
What a joy it is. I started it yesterday and cannot put it down. It's lovely. It's exciting in a "family issues" sort of way and I love it. Plus, I really enjoy reading about the Lower East Side of NYC. It's one of my favorite places to shop when I visit the city. It's also entertaining to read about the folks who came to NYC via Ellis Island...like my great grandparents did.
Jess5, I think you would like this one a lot. Give it a shot. Okay?

Hi waving my hand that would be me that read orchard street and gave the review . Your welcome is it not an awesome book ? wow blew me away .
Also wanted to come here and reccomend the kitchen boy by Robert Alexander finished it in one day and it was awesome . It is about the final days of tsar Nicholas and his family and as we all know they were all executed . This story has always fasinated me because it seems to me that the Tsar and Tsarina were so far from reality it is not funny and how often the royals were put into power just because of their family connections which was or is not the best thing . Anyways it is a pretty good read . take all .

Amy and Isabelle by Elizabeth Strout. I loved her Olive Kitteridge a few years ago, and figured that I'd try Amy and Isabelle out. It's not Olive Kitteridge, but I'm doing OK with it so far. Not great, but readable.
I think my copy of Up from Orchard Street will be arriving today, and with everyone's rave reviews, I think it's going to be hard for me to keep my focus on Amy and Isabelle.

Thanks, phonelady61. I totally enjoyed this book. I stayed up all last night to finish it. I could not put it down.
I read about the author because I was looking for more books by her. She was really an interesting woman. She died in 2004 at the age of 80. She did not write any other fiction novels but it is mentioned (by her) that Up From Orchard Street is semi-autobiographical. What a delight that book is.

Not by the same author, but it's another Orchard Street tale. This one is non-fiction. I bought it for my mother-in-law and she loved it. (Well, she's a typical Jewish mother-in-law... would she TELL me if she DIDN'T love it? )
I'm going to be reading an Intermediate Accounting book for my accounting class online. This book will last 10 whole weeks! I'm not going to be reading any other books for fun during that time. Once I get a break between classes (2 weeks), I'll start the fun once again!
