That's exactly how I feel about short stories (feh!), and that's exactly how I feel about HER short stories (awesome!).
Two things:
1. The second part of the book -- it's three stories that feature the same two characters -- is outstanding! Even better than the first part of the book if you can believe that.
2. Read her other book of short stories, too: Interpreter of Maladies. You won't be disappointed AT ALL. It's a fabulous collection of stories, each and every one.
I'll read it for sure because I like the author's style and because you have never steered me wrong about books (or anything else, for that matter-LOL).

Smoochies!
PS. For whatever reason, I have no interest in reading her full-length novel, even though it got great reviews, online and on this forum.
Glad to find this thread.....you are so civil and friendly here ...not to mention the fabulous book recommendations!
I am behind in reading, having just moved...still on The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo....but soon will get to look for some of your recs. Ummm, how to choose~
Anyone besides me STILL read hardcover/paperback books?
I agree with The Time Traveler's Wife and all of Harry Potter. Also you should check out A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving, Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston and don't forget Audrey Niffenegger's latest: Her Fearful Symmetry.

Welcome to the Books forum, greatblueheron.
We really don't ever argue in this forum because we all love books and have that in common and folks here are really great about talking about books and sharing info about them.

Me! I'm just now reading my first e-book! And only because we MIGHT read it for book club & I discovered that I can get it (Oliver Twist) free on my phone. I can't see ever not having actual books on my shelf! I mean, how can you browse a thrift shop for ebooks??

I have read The Namesake and thought it was just okay, and since I don't care for short stories (not enough going on!) I haven't even these 2 books a try. I guess if I want to give short stories a try again I'd try hers. Which one first?

I'm not sure which one came out first -- you could check that on Amazon -- but I read Interpreter of Maladies first. Really, though, it wouldn't matter.
As for "not enough going on," you'd be surprised. At least in HER stories. She jam-packs so much into so few pages. She's incredible.
