I know there was a thread about this book, but just wanted to hear how many others, if any, were not impressed or just did not like the book. I am not even going to try to finish it .....

generally prefer clever/poignant/imaginative books, some classics, along with war history, art etc.

Thanks!

I read The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo and thought it was fairly good, although I certainly didn't see what all of the fuss was about. Certain pieces of the plot seemed kind of unbelievable, and I'm not just talking about the characters themselves (I read something somewhere describing Lisbeth as a revenge fantasy come to life - almost cartoonish IMO). It also needed a good editor, and I thought the translation left a lot to be desired.

I picked up the 2nd in the series, and then gave up about 1/4 of the way in. Maybe it was just that I expected it to be so much better with all of the hype, but I just wasn't enjoying it. Too many books; too little time to waste it on books that don't thrill me.

I read "A Yellow Raft in Blue Water" in college and I remember liking it very much. I still have it, and it's on my shelf to be read again.

I started "Life of Pi" and as of right now (only 50+ pages into it), I'm wondering why I've heard people say this is one of their favorite books of all time. It's good, but I'm not impressed...yet.

I can't get into A Yellow Raft in Blue Water at all. But, again, it's probably my lack of focus, not the book's fault.

But Life of Pi. Oh my. Keep going. I want you to love it.

Oooh, I just made up a big list after reading through this thread.

I've been binging on books lately. Currently, I'm reading The End of Mr. Y by Scarlett Thomas and Dead Souls by Nikolai Gogol

Let me know once you finish Life of Pi. I want to hear if it got better for you. I'm always disappointed when a book that I adore just doesn't do it for someone else.

Thank you for the recommendation.

ETA: I just read the synopsis of it on Amazon. It sounds like an outstanding book! Thank you again.
I hope you'd like it! Sometimes reading a non-fiction can get me out of the reading rut - since I usually get to learn something new from non-fiction, rather than having to be wowed by the story if that makes sense.
